Molecular Classification of Triple Negative Breast Cancer and Its Applications

  • Triple negative breast cancer(TNBC) is one kind of breast cancer with generally negative expression of estrogen receptor(ER), progesterone receptor(PR) and human epidermal growth factor receptor(Her-2), moreover, it is also one kind of breast cancer subtypes with uniquely biological and clinical characteristics, and features of early recurrence, quick progressing and poor prognosis. According to the molecular features of TNBC, it could be divided into six kinds of gene expression subtypes. Researches show that there are important connection between specific gene mutation subtypes and gene expression subtypes of TNBC, which might provide important individual therapeutic strategy for different subtypes of TNBC. In this review, we would summarize the current understanding of TNBC subtype classification, and describe how this kind of classification could be applied to clinical practice in the future.
