Operative Method and Prognostic Analysis of Rectal Stromal Tumors

  • Objective To summarize operative method and prognosis of rectal stromal tumors. Methods Operative method,choice of surgical approach and treatment outcome of 15 cases with rectal stromal tumors admitted from January 2000 to January 2007 in Zhongnan hospital of Wuhan university were analyzed retrospectively. Results Among 15 cases underwent surgical operation,three cases were treated by abdominoperineal resection,four cases accepted anterior resection of rectum and 8 cases were performed by local excision.Extended resection were performed in 3 patients with local recurrences.All these patients were followed up.At the end of the follow-up peroid,except one case died of intraperitoneal metastasis and two cases died of liver metastasis,11 cases obtained clinical curative effect. Conclusion Surgical operation demonstrated satisfactory results and it was the main therapy method of rectal stromal tumors.Various surgical approach should be accepted according to the site and clinicopathological features of rectal stromal tumors.
