Report of 18 Patients with Esophageal Carcinoma were Treated with Reconstruction Operation of Detaching Esophague from Cardia and Colon Replace Esophague

Objective TO study therapy of cervical and thoracic upper esophageal carcinoma using colon to replace esophagus after detaching esophague from cardia. Methods Eighteen patients with cervical and thoracic upper esophageal carcinoma were treated by colon replace ment of esophagus after detaching esophague from cardia.The indication,operating importantpoint and practicability of colon usedto replace esophague during operation were discussed. Results Mean follow-up term of all 18 patients was 8 years.The survival rate of more than l-year was 72.2%(13/18)，more than 3-year swrvival rate was 44.4%(8/18),and more than 5-year swrvival rate was 27.8%(5/18). Conclusion To detach esophague from cardia and treat cervical and thoracic upper esophague with colon replacing esophague can reduce injury and complication,improve rate of resection and prolonged survival of patients.
