Abstract: ObjectiveTo evaluate the effects of video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) on thoracic tumor. MethodsThe clinical data of 62 patients with thoracic tumor from October 2009 to August 2010 treated by VATS were retrospectively analyzed. ResultsNo fatal cases were observed. There were 30 cases of wedge resection,23 cases of lobectomy, 2 cases of pleura biopsy and pneumonopexy, 7 cases of mediastinum tumor resection, and 5 cases switched to conventional thoracotomy during operation. The average duration of surgery was 72 min, and the average quantity of intraoperative blood loss was 130 ml. No blood transfusions were performed during perioperative period. The average admission time after operation was 8.2 days. And complications developed in 7 cases. ConclusionThere are many advantages of video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) such as minimal injury, less pain, faster recovery and less complication.VATS has wide clinic application. Integrity lobectomy has the same effects compared with conventional thoracotomy by coordinate with disposable suture material, while it still needs to accumulate operative experiences.
