Significance of eIF4E Expression in Carcinogenesis of Esophageal Epithelium

摘要

摘要: 目的探讨eIF4E在食管鳞状上皮癌变过程中的表达及其意义。方法采用免疫组织化学方法，检测食管正常鳞状上皮（15例）、食管鳞状上皮内瘤变（85例）和食管鳞状细胞癌（60例）中eIF4E在蛋白水平的表达情况。结果 eIF4E在正常食管鳞状上皮组织，食管鳞状上皮内瘤变组织和鳞状细胞癌组织中的阳性表达率分别为26.7%、44.7%和63.3%，eIF4E在食管鳞状细胞癌中表达明显高于食管正常鳞状上皮组织及食管鳞状上皮内瘤变组织（P<0.05）；高级别食管鳞状上皮内瘤变组织中eIF4E的阳性表达率显著高于正常食管鳞状上皮组织、低级别食管鳞状上皮内瘤变组织（P<0.05）；低分化鳞癌组织中eIF4E的阳性表达率明显高于高分化鳞癌组织（P<0.05）。eIF4E的表达与临床病理特征不相关（P＞0.05）。 结论在食管鳞状上皮癌变过程中，eIF4E的表达呈增高趋势。eIF4E在食管鳞癌中的表达随肿瘤分化程度降低而增高,提示eIF4E在食管鳞状上皮癌变和进展过程可能发挥一定的作用。

Abstract: Objective To explore the putative roles of eIF4E expression at protein level in the carcinogenesis of esophageal epithelium. Methods The expression of eIF4E at protein level was studied in normal esophageal tissue,esophageal intraepithelial neoplasia（EIN）and esophageal squamous cell carcinoma（ESCC）with immunohistochemical staining method. Results Immunohistochemical staining results showed that the positive expression rate of eIF4E was 26.7%，44.7% and 63.3% in normal esophageal tissue,EIN and ESCC respectively.The expression of eIF4E in ESCC was significantly higher than that of normal esophageal epithelium and EINs（P<0.05).The positive expression of eIF4E in high grade EIN was significantly higher than that in normal esophageal tissue and low-grade EIN（P<0.05). While in ESCC,the expression of eIF4E increased as the pathological grade increased.There was no significant correlation between expression of eIF4E and clinicopathologic features in the ESCC cases(P>0.05). Conclusion In the carcinogenesis of esophageal epithelium,the expression of eIF4E was increased.The expression of eIF4E in ESCC was increased as the degrees of differentiation decreased.Thus,the results showed that eIF4E was possibly involved in the carcinogenesis of esophagus and progression in different ways.
